# Battles

> Turn-based combat at the heart of Spellborne

Battles are the **heart of Spellborne**, merging strategic decision-making with monster growth and player choice.

## Overview

Turn-based combat where participants select from attacks, items, or switches each round. Success hinges on tactical planning and comprehending opponent strategies. Players may capture wild creatures mid-engagement to expand their roster.

## Core Actions

| Action      | Description                                |
| ----------- | ------------------------------------------ |
| **Attack**  | Deploy learned monster abilities           |
| **Item**    | Use consumables for healing or stat boosts |
| **Switch**  | Exchange active monsters within your team  |
| **Capture** | Employ crystals to trap wild monsters      |

## Stats

Monster performance depends on seven core stats:

* **HP** — Health Points
* **Stamina** — Ability usage resource
* **Attack** — Physical damage output
* **Defense** — Physical damage reduction
* **Special Attack** — Special damage output
* **Special Defense** — Special damage reduction
* **Speed** — Turn order priority
